The quiet Mill Valley neighborhood of Tamalpais Valley, better known to locals as Tam Valley, is one of the southernmost neighborhoods in Marin, and one of the best commute locations into San Francisco. It’s a beautiful area with an almost rural feel, but the weather is an issue of much discussion, as on many days the fog and wind come in over the ridges from the ocean and cool the valley considerably. The area has it’s own community center and farmers market and a fair number of stores and restaurants too. Tam Valley consists of a few different neighborhoods.
in the flats you'll find a nice mix of smaller bungalow style homes with charm and homes built in the 60s. Areas deeper in the valley, such as Eastwood Park, feature some nicer and larger homes with bigger lots. Surrounding the valley are Almonte Ridge and Mountain Gate. Mountain Gate is the neighborhood to the south and up on the hill. This southern ridge tends to have more wind and fog than other parts of Mill Valley. Almonte Ridge is on the northern ridge above Tam Valley, with mostly, a mix of entry level and larger remodeled homes from the 60s and 70s. Almonte Ridge is close to Tam High so it’s convenient for those with teenage kids.
Tam Valley is close to some great beaches such as Muir Beach or Stinson Beach and is a gateway to Tamalpais State Park, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and West Marin. Residents enjoy great municipal parks, hiking and biking trails, and plenty of places to roam. Its a peaceful and rural place with the convenience of downtown Mill Valley around the corner.
Tam Valley boasts excellent schools that are part of the Mill Valley School District. Most younger kids go to Tam Valley Elementary while older students attend Mill Valley Middle School. High schoolers join other teens from the area at Tamalpais High School.
